Land clearing in Carterville usually starts with ground that got away from somebody. Brush thickens along the back fence. Saplings fill in old pasture until multiflora rose builds a thorny wall you cannot push through. Carterville sits on Route 13 between Carbondale and Marion, with Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge along its south side. Much of the ground around Carterville was farm or timber before the houses came. Let a field go two or three seasons and bush honeysuckle takes the edges. Around 62918 the pattern repeats: you cannot see the property line, and the back half sits unused. A tracked skid steer with a mulching head takes care of both.
We run a tracked skid steer with a forestry mulching head. It grinds standing brush and saplings into mulch. Small trees go the same way, and stumps get cut down to grade. The chips stay on the ground, so there are no burn piles and nothing to haul away. Our shop sits in Cobden, about 25 miles southwest with Carbondale near the midpoint. Carterville is a routine drive for us. We handle forestry mulching, brush clearing, trail cutting and hunting property improvement. Small jobs are welcome. A single fence line or a half acre of honeysuckle is real work to us. We are fully insured, and estimates are free.

Carterville sits at about 443 feet on rolling southern Illinois ground. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge covers close to 44,000 acres along the south side of town. Crab Orchard Lake alone runs about 6,965 acres. The refuge mixes hardwood forest, crop fields, grazing units, brushland and wetland. Private ground near town often reads the same way. Oak and hickory on the high spots, open field in the middle, brushy edge between them.
Carterville keeps filling in with houses, and new lots push into old farm and timber ground. That edge is where invasive brush takes hold. Bush honeysuckle leafs out early and shades out whatever is under it. Multiflora rose grows into a living fence, and its thorns stop a mower cold. Autumn olive reaches twenty feet and spreads wherever birds drop seed. Drive Route 13 toward Crainville and Cambria and you see them on untended edges.
We look the job over with you first and agree on what stays and what goes. The mulching head runs on a tracked skid steer. Tracks spread the weight, so the ground takes less rutting than it would from wheels. The head grinds brush and saplings where they stand and cuts stumps down to grade. Material comes out as chip and stays put, so nothing gets stacked or burned. A typical residential lot is a one or two day job.
Around Carterville the work splits a few ways. Homeowners in the newer subdivisions want the back third of the lot opened up and kept that way. Wooded ground near the refuge usually calls for trail cutting, a path wide enough to walk or run a UTV. Hunting ground calls for hunting property improvement, meaning shooting lanes and clean access to a stand. We do not do stump grinding or dirt work. Tree service and hauling are not our line either.
